IoBM student wins ‘2nd Best Paper Award’

Sadia Shahid, an MBA student at IoBM, has won the 2nd Best Paper Award and a cash prize of PKR 20,000 at the 15th South Asian Management Forum. It was held at IBA Sukkur from September 27-29, 2019. She developed the paper during the course of Marketing Strategies and Value Innovation (MSVI) under the supervision of Javaid Ahmed, Senior Fellow, Strategy & Innovation, Management & HRM Department, IoBM.

Mr. Talib Karim, President IoBM, presented Sadia with the cash award in his office on Thursday, October 10, 2019. Dr. Samra Javed, HoD, Entrepreneurship & Management Excellence Center and Advisor to the Office of President, IoBM and Javaid Ahmed were also present on this occasion.

The researched case study presented by Sadia discusses the emergence and growth of the online ride-hailing industry in Pakistan. This case study was a significant part of the graduate level 6 course at IoBM. The purpose of the case study was to analyze an increasingly competitive market of the online ride-hailing industry in Pakistan. It sheds light on how following the framework of blue ocean strategic shift can lead to the creation of uncontested market space. It also focuses on how value innovation leads to unlocking a huge market of non-customers to redefine market boundaries.
As many as 70 papers were selected for the conference out of over 600 submissions. Sadia competed with able and senior candidates, mostly professors and Ph.D. scholars. The South Asian Management Forum is a consortium of Management Associations (AMDISA, AMDIP) of six South Asian countries and leading business schools. IoBM is proud of its students and their potential for they have been using their knowledge and acumen to earn academic and research accolades at home and abroad.
