The Electrical Engineering Department at the College of Engineering and Sciences (CES), IoBM held two events at the EMEC Conference Room on Thursday, October 3, 2019. These included an Industrial Lecture followed by the 2nd Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) Meeting. From IoBM, Dr. Seema Ansari, Associate Dean CES; Dr. M Imran Majid, Associate Professor and HoD, Electrical Engineering played a key role in organizing these events.
These lectures were organized in accordance with IoBM’s strategic plan to enhance the student experience in academics and research through technology. The Institute’s Electrical Engineering Department and the Society of Eglence & Technologies (SET) collaborated with the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Karachi, IET on Campus NED and Engineering Society to organize this event. The IET has been inspire, inform and influence the global engineering community to engineer a better world. As a diverse home across engineering and technology, IET shares knowledge that helps make better sense of the world in order to solve the challenges that matter. It’s why IET are uniquely placed to champion engineering. “IET Karachi Network” is one of local networks of IET. Mr. Talib Karim, President IoBM has been envisioning a closer linkage between the industry and academics. These lectures, therefore, aided to the President’s vision.
During these lectures, Zafar Faridi, Chairman IET Karachi delivered a presentation about On-campus activities for IoBM. Raja Sabri Khan, CEO Integrated Dynamics and Engineer Sarwar Faridi, Energy Consultant, were invited as keynote speakers at this event. Mr. Sabri shared his insights on future drones, the concept of High Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS) and its applicability in Pakistan. Engineer Faridi presented a detailed analysis about the electric grid, the merger of communication and power solutions. These lectures were attended by a large number of students from IoBM and NED UET. The students benefitted from these lectures that enhanced their classroom learning.

The objective of the Industrial Advisory Board (IAB) Meeting was to receive stakeholder’s input to upgrade the Electrical Engineering department’s curriculum. This will align the degree program and its courses with industry requirements. The meeting also discussed the commercialization activities of the department. This meeting provided the Electrical Engineering Department with a roadmap on how to effectively complete its academic and research objectives.
