Connecting Classroom Learning with Industry Practices

The theme of the 3rd International conference on Experiential Learning is “Connecting Classroom Learning with Industry Practices”. The conference supports the 21st century educational philosophy of connecting active learning and participatory experiences with reflection. Promoting a multidisciplinary pedagogical approach, Experiential Learning educators purposefully engage learners in direct experiences outside the traditional classroom, thereby fostering interest and enabling them to acquire skills, knowledge and experience for lifelong learning. Accordingly, the aim of the conference is to provide a platform for intellectual dialogue on pedagogies and practices that demonstrate purpose-driven experiential learning including:
- study abroad
- field research
- project-based learning
- problem-based learning
- activity-based learning
We invite speaker proposal submission on a wide range of topics relating to the conference theme and multidisciplinary tracks.

Accepted abstracts will be published in the conference program book. We also provide scholars the opportunity to publish their papers in HEC recognized journals, including International Journal of Experiential Learning and Case Studies, Pakistan Business Review, Journal of Education and Educational Development. Selected papers from each track will receive the best paper award.

Abstract submission requirements include:
- names of all presenters
- a title (maximum 10 words)
- presenter(s) biodata (maximum 80 words), and
- an abstract (maximum 300 words)

Proposals will be evaluated anonymously by the ICEL 2019 Review Board for contribution to the field, quality of content, thematic relevance, quality of abstract (organization and clarity of expression).

Paper submission guidelines are as follows:
- The paper should be based on original research work and should not have been published or being considered for publication elsewhere.
- The title of the paper should be appropriate to the content and intended audience.
- The paper should indicate clearly the relevance of your research to the theory and/or practice of experiential learning.
- The paper should be 5,000-6,000 words in length and should have the following sections:
- Discussion, and
- Implications/Directions for Future Research
- The paper should include 5 to 7 keywords.
- The paper should be submitted in Word format in Times New Roman, 12 size font and with wide margins; there should be a maximum of three level headings.
- Both in-text references and the final reference list should follow the APA style.
- All tables and figures should be included at the appropriate place in the body text.
- Interactive talk (paper presentation): 15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion
- Workshop: 90 minutes – 120 minutes (including Q&A)
- Panel discussion: 2 hour
- Case studies: 15 minutes presentation + 5 minutes discussion
- Poster/Project Exhibition (All posters will be on display throughout the conference).
- For Paper, Workshop presentations and Panel discussion - The rooms are equipped with a projector and a VGA cable. Bring your own device (and a connector if a Mac) Poster- All posters are to be printed in (3 x 5 feet) size and displayed as portrait or landscape.
- Pushpins/poster display stands will be provided at the venue. Please do not send your poster to the conference Centre. You will be advised of the place for putting up the poster when the schedule is confirmed.
Oral presentations must be delivered in English. Presentations will be strictly limited to 15 minutes each, with an additional 5 minutes at the end for questions and discussion. These time limits will be strictly enforced to keep the conference running on schedule, thereby ensuring that all speakers have the same opportunity to present their work and that audience members can readily move between sessions to hear particular talks. Speakers should plan on arriving at their assigned meeting room a few minutes prior to the start of their session ensure that their presentation has been properly loaded onto the dedicated laptop.
Microsoft PowerPoint (with standard aspect ratio of 4:3) is the official format for electronic presentations. We will accept a PowerPoint file (.ppt) or a Portable Document Format (.pdf) file, and we strongly encourage you to save your presentation in both formats in case of a file compatibility issue or other unforeseen technical problem. All oral presenters will need to bring their presentation on a USB flash drive and load their presentation in the assigned meeting room prior to the start of their session. It is the responsibility of each individual presenter to ensure that his/her presentation(s) are uploaded in the assigned meeting room at least 30 minutes prior to the beginning of the session in which they are presenting and to test their files before uploading.
Important: If your presentation contains links to video files, it is essential that you bring not only your PowerPoint file, but also your original video files to the assigned meeting room. The preferred video file formats are .MPEG or .MP4, but .WMV and Flash video files are acceptable. QuickTime, .MOV, video files are not compatible with PowerPoint and should be converted to one of the above formats. All videos should be tested and checked in advance in the assigned meeting room to be sure they will work properly.
Poster presenters will hang their posters upon arrival at the conference beginning on Friday, October 19, 2018. All posters should be in place by Saturday morning at 11:00 am when the first poster session is scheduled to begin. We will assign each presenter the venue where your poster will be displayed. Poster presentations will remain on display for the duration of the conference. Authors will have the opportunity to discuss their presentations with conference attendees during tea breaks. All poster presenters are strongly encouraged to be present during their assigned session. The conference will not be responsible for any posters left behind.

Prof. Craig Duff
Northwestern University, USA
Craig Duff is an Emmy award-winning video journalist and documentary television director, producer and writer. He specializes in multi-platform storytelling and explanatory journalism. In January 2012, Craig was named a professor of journalism at the Medill School at Northwestern University, where he continues to teach. During nearly 10 years at CNN and Turner Broadcasting, Craig Duff received numerous awards, including a national EMMY, two Cable Ace Awards, the National Headliner Award, a Genesis award, three awards from the Environmental Media Association, and festival honors from the Houston, Chicago, Columbus and National Educational Film Festivals. Craig is working on a project to update the curriculum at Northwestern University, and that includes aspects of Experiential Learning.
Prof. Maria José Palma Lampreia dos Santos
Instituto Politécnico de Lisboa, Lisbonne, Portugal
Maria Dos Santos is currently Assistant Professor and Researcher at the ISCTE-Institute University of Lisbon- DINÂMIA´CET. At the moment she is a Portuguese Delegate from 2 COST Actions supported by the European Commission at WG Socio-economics impacts; Sustainability, and CAP economics policies. She was Special Advisor in Agricultural Economics before the MFF 2014-2020 and Participant in a Project supported by the European Parliament. Her research interests include applied economics; agricultural economics, namely, efficiency and sustainability.
Dr Sheroz Khan
International Islamic University Malaysia, Malaysia
Being the best of the Electrical Engineering Department of the NWFP University of Engineering & Technology, Peshawar (KPK, Pakistan), Sheroz Khan was awarded scholarship for MSc in Microelectronics and Computer Engineering from the University of Surrey, which he completed successfully in 1990. The University extended his scholarship for doing PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde which he completed in 1994. He taught at the NWFP UET (full-time) and at Aeronautical Engineering College Risalpur (NUST, part-time). Since 2000, he has been working within the department of ECE at the IIUM Kuala Lumpur. Currently he is supervising 8 PhD and 2 M Sc researchers. Sheroz Khan is successfully running a collaboration program under an MoU with the University of LIMOGES (France), IIUM-IIU Islamabad, and is in kickstart mode an MoU IIUM-Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences (SUAS, Germany). He is founder/co-founder/TC/KC chair of ICCCE, ICSIMA, ICET, ICISE, ICCSA, SCOReD, ICETAS, ICIRD.
Dr. Tanju Deveci
Khalifa University of Science and Technology, Abu Dhabi, UAE
Tanju Deveci is an Associate Professor of Lifelong Learning. He received his PhD in Lifelong Learning and Adult Education in 2011 from Ankara University, Turkey. He holds master’s degrees in Adult Education from Ankara University and in English Language Teaching from the Middle East Technical University, Turkey. He also has Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA) awarded by Cambridge University. He taught English for academic purposes at Bilkent and Sabanci Universities in Turkey for 15 years. Since 2012, he has been teaching English and communication skills to engineering students at Khalifa University of Science and Technology in Abu Dhabi, the UAE. He has published research and teaching articles on a wide range of topics including andragogy and pedagogy, learning styles, technology use for instructional purposes. His research interests also include pragmatics with a particular focus on speech acts. He has published book chapters and research articles on a variety of academic literacy skills, too. He is currently writing a book on adult education theories and conducting research into learning English as a lifelong learning endeavor. He is an Associate Editor for the Asian ESP Journal. He has delivered speeches at numerous international conferences in Europe and Asia.
Dr Syed Shiraz Hyder
University of North Dakota
Dr Syed Shiraz Hyder is a graduate of Dow Medical College (now Dow University of Health Sciences). He completed his Neurology residency and fellowship from Medical College of Georgia and Masters in Medical Management from University of Southern California. He is board certified in Neurology and Medical Management. He is currently a Clinical Professor of Neuroscience at University of North Dakota and Chief Medical Officer, Vice President Medical Affairs at St. Alexius Medical Center, Bismarck, North Dakota.
Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta
Medical Superintendent, AIIMS (Dr RP Centre)
Dr Shakti Kumar Gupta, Medical Superintendent, AIIMS (Dr RP Centre), New Delhi hails from a border Village Ari (LOC), Dist. Poonch, J&K State is an alumnus of Government Medical College, Jammu from where he did his MBBS and AIIMS New Delhi from where he obtained his Masters in Hospital Administration. Commencing his medical career at grass-root levels as an Assistant Surgeon in J&K Health Services, he provided curative, preventive, promotive and rehabilitative services at dispensary and primary healthcare centres. He actively facilitated implementation of national health programmes and submitted project reports for district and general hospitals. His quest for achieving professional excellence propelled him to relocate to AIIMS where he joined as a faculty.
